Hawaii Nursing License for Travel Nurses

Not a Compact State

A multistate license does not allow you to practice in Hawaii. You need a Hawaii-issued license.

Full License by Endorsement

No Hawaii job offer required. Best if you want flexibility or are planning ahead.

  • Apply via MyPVL portal
  • Nursys verification (or direct from original state)
  • Fingerprinting / background check
  • NPDB self-query
  • Fees roughly $166–$234 depending on issuance timing

Plan for weeks to a couple of months once complete.

Temporary Permit

Requires a confirmed Hawaii employer. Faster path once you have a job offer.

  • Employment verification from Hawaii facility required
  • $50 fee for standalone temp permit
  • Combined temp + endorsement option available (mail/hand-deliver)
  • Tied to the listed employer
  • Valid for a limited period (typically up to 6 months or until full license)

Can move faster once paperwork is complete and verified.

Key Documents & Steps

  3. Complete fingerprinting (Fieldprint or equivalent).
  4. Submit NPDB self-query.
